It’s been quite a while since I’ve been on social media and my blog! I’ve tried to keep up this spring, however, life has been quite busy.
I recently moved into the city in Portland and I took a new job in Physician Recruiting all at once. Between these transitions, many others have occurred! I have not had nearly as much time to commit to my blog since I was training in my new position and moving etc.
I’m sure many of you are in the season of life I am… which is attending weddings all spring/summer/fall. As someone who is a bargain, budget friendly shopper, I thought I’d share with you some of the finds for “wedding appropriate attire”. I also think that any of these dresses are bridal shower appropriate as well!
As far as the rules for shopping “wedding attire”:
DON’T WEAR WHITE: Obviously, do not wear white – this color is reserved for the bride! Please do not be that person 🙂
DRESS MODEST: Do not upstage the bride. Make sure your attire is modest and classy. I’ve been to weddings where one of the guests is wearing a tight white dress. SO not cool! Rule of thumb, if you wouldn’t wear it in-front of your grandma, then you probably shouldn’t wear it to the wedding in front of other people’s grandmas!
DON’T BE TOO CASUAL: Do not wear jean, or anything TOO casual. This is an event you do need to dress up for. Judging on the invite/location etc. be mindful of how dressy to be. You can research the venue or look at photos to get an idea if it’s inside or outside and so on.
DRESS SEASONALLY: If it’s a summer wedding, opt for color, pastels, floral prints and avoid black until fall and/or winter.
DON’T BREAK THE BANK: Just because you want to dress nice does not mean you need to have a $500 dress 🙂 If you’re like me, you buy a $50 dress, and look classy & ready for the wedding festivities. Perfect!
*Also note – I typically have been attending outdoor weddings as I live in Oregon. If you’re going to a black tie formal wedding event, consider a longer dress and/or more formal that what I have provided!
I also wanted to give a shout out to my gracious friends, Michayla! She is learning photography and took these photos for me. She is already amazing at it and I’m so thankful for her willingness to have some fun shooting for me.
Happy Wednesday! I hope you are all having a fantastic week. I am excited to share with you one of my new hair care favorites, Pantene Pro-V’s new Breakage Defense Shampoo. I love Pantene’s new line because, hair care originally cleansed hair by washing nutrients out of our hair, the next wave added conditioning ingredients to on the surface of our hair, and now the new technology is actually fueling our hair. Fueling your hair is the new wave of 2017, make sure you’re putting nourishing nutrients into it with Pantene because Strong Is Beautiful!
Why I am thrilled to talk about Pantene is because I’ve had many hair care blog posts before, all saying how I can make my hair healthier, shinier, and more manageable. While most shampoos only cleanse the surface of the hair, Pantene’s new shampoos penetrate the core with nourishing lipids and antioxidants, replenishing hair’s lost moisture, and protecting from present and future damage. I’ve noticed after I started using the Breakage Defense Shampoo, my hair was more manageable, shinier, and over all healthier!
Something else that sold me on Pantene is, I’m a big fan of only washing my hair 1-2 times a week. This can be hard especially when I hit the gym every day, my hair would feel dry (my color would look dull) if I washed it every day. Now with Pantene’s new shampoos, I can wash my hair daily without the fear of my shampoo stripping my hair of moisture, (color) or nutrients, leaving my hair smooth and shiny. I highly recommend trying any of their fantastic new shampoos and complementary conditioners (there’s 12 variants, so you’re bound to find one that works for your hair type)! Pantene smells amazing, is affordable, and so healthy for your hair. If you have any more questions about why I use Pantene, I would love to hear from you! I choose Pantene to fuel my hair, because strong hair is beautiful!
Thank you Pantene for sponsoring this post, all opinions are my own.
Can’t wait to share some of my hair tips 🙂 I’ve done a post like this before “5 Tips you need to know for healthier hair”, but I thought I would do another since I get so many questions about my hair (and these are new tips I hadn’t mentioned in my other post). Here are the hair tips I’m living by:
Hair Tip 1: Only wash your hair a couple times a week. I know a lot of people have said “but my hair is so greasy”. It will be for the first couple of days, but use a lot of dry shampoo and it will get better over time! It’s just like skincare, the less you strip your skin and hair of it’s natural oils, the less your body is triggered to over produce oils. I actually find that my hair is easier to manage when it’s not squeaky clean; the dry shampoo gives it a lot of body, too! I’ve linked my favorite dry shampoos from all price points:
Hair Tip 2: Use a straightener instead of a curling iron. My hair holds curl a lot longer and it’s much smoother when it’s curled with a flat iron. I have naturally curly hair, so I have to straighten the top anyways…using a flat iron also saves me a lot of time. Curling your hair with a flat iron can be tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it before! My favorite tutorials here & here. I also recommend only using a flat iron that is ceramic plated and 1-1 1/4 inches. My favorite straightener is the T3 Micro Luxe.
Hair Tip 3: If you want long hair, but don’t want wait… listen here. 6 month trims are a must for healthy hair, but sometimes I have to cut more off than I bargain for. If I want super long hair, I go to my Irresistible Me hair extensions. I wear these for my photo shoots and whenever I want to take my look to the next level. These extensions are super soft (amazing quality), match my hair perfectly and they are very affordable! I currently use the The ‘Silky Light Brown” in 18′.
Hair Tip 4: Healthy Hair starts from within. This goes with your skin too. What you put into your body will ultimately reflect in your hair, skin and nails. I like to eat a plant based diet, drink a lot of water (I drink half my body weight in ounces a day) & take supplements. Right now I am loving Nurtafol. I take as directed, which is 4 capsules a day for maximum results. They are for thicker, longer, healthier hair – sign me up! I started taking Nurtafol in January 2017 (I cut 6in off my hair) and I wanted to re-grow it really healthy; I’ve seen great results mixing all the tips I have given you today! Updates later this year on my progress 🙂
I’m excited to share this fun look with you guys. I have been a bit busy lately and I’m hoping you all haven’t given up on me 🙂 With the beginning of the new year upon us, and starting a new job, I’ve been one busy girl! P.S. I was so dang cold taking these photos, I have really been hoping for some warmer weather/less windy days so I don’t have to hold my hair down in every photo!

Calm app – this app is great for mental health. It teaches you to breath, relax & soak in the moment! Highly recommend.
Devotionals – I’m currently reading “New Morning Mercies” – it really helps me get started for the day and focus on what’s important.
Nike Training App – Since I’m not spending money on the gym, because of my penny pinching, I’ve been using the free Nike Training App, I love it so far! I haven’t missed a day since I’ve started (this month…).
Daily Harvest Smoothies – A coworker of mine gets these fresh, and all natural smoothies delivered every month! They are amazing, and taste so good. I recently tried this one in the picture.

I’ve had some big financial goals set for myself. Dave Ramsey has really taught me how to take control of my finances. I listen to the podcast daily and I also use envelope system. Has anyone else heard of him? Find out more about this program here.
Building my Wardrobe: I cleaned out my whole closet, only kept what I really wore/liked and it felt SO good. My closet feels a little naked…. But I plan on stocking it with only things I actually like. Check out my Pinterest where I found out just what staples I need 🙂
Bargain Hunting: I can’t buy everything consignment, like shoes for example. I found these Nikes for only $55 – so needless to say, even if I’m buying new, you know it probably won’t be full price! All my new favs below (All $50 or below):
